Agricultural Societies Council (ASC) Youth Group Of NSW

Established in recent years the ASC Youth Group of NSW is comprised of young, enthusiastic people who have a passion for agricultural shows. There are currently about 20 (and growing!!) Show Society Youth Groups around NSW.

These groups assist their local shows with events and activities, stewarding and social functions. They aid with Junior Judging Competitions, Parader’s Competitions, Miss Showgirl and Rural Achiever/Ambassador Competitions.

Many of the groups have been instrumental in revitalising events or aspects of their shows. For example, Cootamundra Show Society Youth Group instituted a successful Quick Sheers Competition held during their October show, while Grenfell Show Society benefited enormously from the resurrection of a beef cattle section by the Show Youth Group after an absence of eight years (not to mention the Cow Pat lotto success!!). Other youth groups are establishing new competitions reflecting youth activities such as Ute Competitions and Show Balls. The Youth Groups also provide social networks and support for these young people.

Within NSW there exists an ASC Youth Exchange Program where youth group members visit others shows to learn how things are done elsewhere and take great ideas home!

There is real potential to develop other state based youth groups and a National Show Societies Youth Group. As networks grow across the country we hope there could be an expansion of the Youth Exchange Program to include interstate show visits.

We know that there are similarly enthusiastic young people in all states and territories who already contribute to their local shows- WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

By joining or starting a Show Society Youth Group you can have a say in the running of your local show and help ensure that country shows survive well into the future!
